Charles “Stuart” Thomas

Charles “Stuart” Thomas, 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Gurney E. and Helen Treadway Thomas. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Taylor, a nephew, Tony Taylor, and a great-nephew, Chris Taylor.
Stuart was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. He loved working in his garden and working on old cars. Stuart loved his family, home and church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Kathleen “Kat” Shoemake Thomas; two brothers, Edward Thomas and wife Edna and Gary Thomas and wife Kay, all of Elizabethton; a special nephew and friend, Jimmy Taylor; a niece, Tracee Johnson; a great-niece, Hailey Johnson; several other nieces and nephews; one aunt, Louise Arnold, Johnson City; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Stalcup, Gray, and Dorothy Shoemake, Mountain City; and two brothers-in-law, Harold Shoemake and wife Brenda, Mountain City, and John Shoemake and friend Kathy Cordell, Butler.
Funeral services for Charles “Stuart” Thomas will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell and the Rev. Dean Presnell officiating. Music will be provided by the Smith Sisters. Private graveside services will follow in the Treadway Cemetery (Siam Road). Active pallbearers will be Dallas Farmer, Bobby Smith, Jeff Lowe, Ben Smith, Leonard Buckles, Chester Brown, Danny Hilbert and Jerry Buckles. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Hyland, Carl Johnson, Jerry Wilson, Charles “Dude” LaPorte, A.D. “Sonny” Fletcher, Rodney Smith, Darrel Honeycutt, Albert Williams, Steve Minton and the Men’s Sunday School Class of Willow Springs Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and the staff of ICU, Sycamore Shoals Hospital, for the excellent care received. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence.
