Orba M. “Mom” Carr

Orba M. “Mom” Carr, 80, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, September 4, 2015.
Orba was born on May 3, 1935 in Sulphur Springs, Tenn., to the late Carl M. and Clara Mae South Cade.
Orba accepted Jesus as her personal Savior on August 17, 1952 at Happy Valley Baptist Church and was baptized in September 1952.
She was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, class of 1954, and Civil Service Training School of Miami, Fla., in 1955.
She married Ralph M. Carr on March 31, 1956.
Orba worked for Kimberly Quality Care. She was a volunteer for the Kingsport Public Library and Tri-Cities Christian High School Library. Ms. Carr also was a babysitter for several children.
Ms. Carr was very proud of the fact that Cades Cove was named after her ancestors.
In addition to her parents, and her husband in 1982, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Carl Lance Gulley, in 1983, and one daughter, Tammy Carr, in 2006.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Carr, of Jonesborough, and Darlene Gulley, and her husband Carl, of Kingsport; two sons, Wayne Alan Carr, and his wife Tammie Renae, of Colonial Heights, and Eddie Carr, and his wife Joy, of Sale Creek; one granddaughter, Kamitra Carr; six grandsons, Brian Carr, and his wife Lynsey, Adam Carr, Weston Carr, and his wife Shelby, Carl Gulley Jr., Jeremy Carr, and his wife Kristie, and Joshua Carr; four sisters, Opal Cade Carr, of Gray, Margaret Cade Britt Foley, of Alabama, Sarah Cade Edwards, of Jonesborough, and Mabel Cade, of Foley, Ala.; two brothers, George Cade, of Johnson City, and Don Cade, of Hampton; several nieces and nephews; one very special friend, Judi Greene; and five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emmi, Maddox, Jaylin and Jaxson.
The family of Orba M. Carr will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, September 7, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Bud Hulsey officiating. Pallbearers will be selected by family and friends. Honorary pallbearers include the Happy Valley Class of 1954. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, to go in procession to Carr Family Cemetery for the 11 a.m. graveside services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Small-Miracles Therapeutic Equestrian Center, 1026 Rock Springs Drive, Kingsport, TN 37664, for Ms. Carr’s grandson, Carl Gulley Jr., and in memory of his grandfather and brother.
