“A once bright flame was dimmed today
but will never be extinguished;
Though we loved her much, God’s will requires
every life, in its time, is relinquished.”
Betty Gail Hatfield Boyd, of Butler, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the age of 77, at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn.
A native of McCarr, Ky., Betty was born on January 30, 1938, the oldest child of the late Rev. Raynie W. Hatfield and Myrtle (Starr) Hatfield. She attended Southern West Virginia Community College. She was formerly a substitute school teacher and was active in Community affairs.
She was a Christian; she faithfully attended Enon United Baptist Church in Blackberry City, W.Va., for many years. After moving to Carter County she joined Fish Springs Baptist Church. She loved going to church with her family and helping with all the church dinners and activities.
We will truly miss Betty, but we have faith that through God’s love and mercy, we will see her again in that beautiful place, where there will be no more sorrow, pain, heartache nor separation. Family prepares to meet her again one sweet day.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Shanna Denise Moore; three brothers, John Allen, Joseph Matthew and Roger Dale Hatfield; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Etta Boyd.
Survivors include her loving husband of over 60 years, Raymond Boyd Jr.; her children, Vanessa Kay Moore (Curtis), Raymond Wilson Boyd, Ronald Jeffrey Boyd (Dawn), Johnna Gail Curry, Myrtle Jean Blackburn, David Ray Boyd (Tammy) and Rodney Darrell Boyd (Tasha); 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raynie Jr. (Arzella), James Ferrell (Cathy) and Paul (Francis); and her sisters, Jane Ellen Hatfield Fields (Bill), Toni VanHorn-Bruce (Bob) and Mary Alafair Hatfield Young (Don).
