Michael Gerald Hart, 68, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mike was a native of Carter County and a graduate of Happy Valley High School. He served in the United States Army. He lived in Winston-Salem, N.C., for 40 years before returning to Elizabethton. He was a retired Manager with Bread Company in Winston-Salem.
Mike attended Biltmore Baptist Church. He loved to go hunting and camping.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Hart, and a sister, Jo Anna Fair.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Slagle Hart; a son and his girlfriend, Robbie Hart and Casey, Winston-Salem, N.C.; two grandsons, Colton and Caden; his mother, Kathleen Fair Hart, Elizabethton; his brother and wife, Tony and Jacque Hart, St. Louis, Mo.; his brother-in-law, Benny Fair, Elizabethton; his step-children, Michael Williams and wife Amy, Elizabethton, and Lynette Coppage, Johnson City; four step-grandchildren, Aerial Frazier, Cortney Coppage, Allison Williams and Jacob Williams; and a step-great-grandson, Armani Coppage.
A memorial service for Michael Gerald Hart will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Davis, the Rev. Bill Younce and Mr. Tony Hart officiating. Music will be provided by Greater Glory. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Williams, Guy Ford, Reggie Scalf, Josh Scalf and Don Williams. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Mountain States Hospice, especially Greg Matney. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the home of his mother, Kathleen Hart, 820 Cambridge Avenue, Elizabethton.
