George Kenneth Woodby, 71, of Jonesborough, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at his residence.
A native of Washington County, he was a son of the late Herbert and Floy Elizabeth Sneyd Woodby.
George served in the United States Army during the Gulf War. He was a former employee of Baxter Laboratories. He retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard and was a member of V.F.W. Post #2166, Elizabethton.
He attended Eastern Gate Free Will Baptist Church and also Hopson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Edna Hill Woodby; a son, Eric Woodby, of the home; three brothers, Herbert Woodby Jr. and wife Marlene, Douglas Woodby and Danny Lee Woodby and wife Brenda, all of Unicoi; two grandchildren, Samuel A. Woodby and Sarah Silvers; nine great-grandchildren, McKenna, Coraline, Harper, Garrott, Leighton, Nathan, Silas, Nicholas and Briar; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for George Kenneth Woodby will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dallas Gregg officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 31, in the Whitehead Cemetery, Hampton. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, will be Samuel Adam Woodby, Ed Johnson, Michael Johnson, Junior Blevins, Garrett Yarbor, Joey Mangano and Rickie Simerly. Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Chambers, Bill Barnett, Jerry Barnett, Bernie Hill, Danny Simerly, Lester Simerly, Leon Whitehead, James Hill and Ronnie Hill. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
