Five students in the Carter County School system are facing criminal charges and possible disciplinary action from their schools after officials say the students were caught drinking alcohol on school campus on Tuesday.
“Four students from Hampton High School and one student from Hampton Elementary were charged with underage drinking and consuming alcohol on school grounds,” Carter County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sal Caccamo said in a police report.
Because the students are juveniles, their names are not public record and any court records are sealed.
On Wednesday afternoon, Carter County Director of Schools Dr. Kevin Ward confirmed the incident did happen and said the school system is still investigating the incident.
“Right now they are suspended until further notice,” Ward said of the students. “We are looking at the situation to determine what, if any, further disciplinary action is going to take place.
