Cleo Miller Greer

Cleo Miller Greer, 95, departed this life Thursday morning, March 10, 2016, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center where she had lived since 2009. She previously lived in the Burbank community at 106 Cove Creek Road. She was a member of Burbank Freewill Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, Tenn.
Cleo was born October 11, 1920 and was a daughter of the late Clayton and Lockie Street Miller. In addition to her parents, Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Greer, on April 6, 2009. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Daisy Miller and Lillie Young. Also by sisters, Birdie and Viola Miller, who died as young children; nephews, Malone Young and Barnes Miller; and nieces, Marlene Scott and Janice Honeycutt.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Dr. R. Douglas Greer, Professor at Columbia University, and his wife Lori; grandson, Dr. John Greer, of Virginia, Cleo also had a soft spot in her heart for John’s dog Otter; granddaughters, Dr. Laura Melissa Greer and husband Dr. Erich Osterberg, of New Hampshire; Angela Greer, of New Jersey, and great-grandsons, Owen and Elliot Osterberg, and great-nieces, Marilyn and Linda Young, Johnson City, Tenn.; great-niece, Teresa Smith and her husband Kenney and daughter Madison, Elizabethton, Tenn., were a source of joy for Cleo.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the nursing home staff and to Dr. Vivian Clark. A special thanks to Nurse Nancy who knew how to keep Cleo in line.
Cleo had many special friends including Mary Troutman, Marie Barnett, Willie Troutman, Rebecca Shell, Draper Heaton, Alice, Ester, Louise, Brenda, Vivian, the Hill family, and the Stockton family, to name just a few. And two who loved her dearly, Wanda Greer and Wanda Milligan. We will miss her.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Monday, March 14, at the Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain. The funeral service will follow at noon at the Rhododendron Chapel with Rev. John McCoury in charge of services. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be John Greer, Kenney Smith, Grayson Street, Chris Milhorn, Scott Greer and Carroll Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Troutman, Dayton Street, C.L. Greer, Ray Greer, R.A. Burleson, Jody Milligan and members of the nursing home outreach team of Burbank Freewill Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “Sisters In Christ” women’s ministry of Burbank Freewill Baptist Church, 122 Burbank Road, Roan Mountain, TN 37687.
