Nine students at Cloudland High School recently captured honors at the state level from the Future Farmers of America organization and the chapter as a whole won a national honor.

For the 2015-16 school year, the Cloudland chapter received first place in the nation for their “Rosie the Riveter” T-shirt design, chapter sponsor and CHS agriculture teacher Lauren Turbyfill said.

The chapter also earned nine State FFA Degrees.

“The State FFA Degree is an honor that a small percentage of FFA members receive,” Turbyfill said. “It is based on active membership that goes above and beyond the Chapter level.”

“Students must have community service hours, have attended or competed in five activities above the Chapter level, and accrued at least 300 hours in their Supervised Agricultural Experience,” she added.

This year’s recipients were: Teaira Black, Danielle Hughes, Emily Powell, TJ Davis, Megan Jarrett, Alex Parlier, Tanner Hicks, Alenna McGuire, and Leann Presnell. These members are now eligible to continue their FFA membership beyond high school and earn 1,000 SAE hours to obtain the very highly sought “American FFA Degree.” Two previous CHS graduates are pursuing the American Degree this year; Billi Potter and Carl Markland.
