Roma J. Taylor, 76, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, from Johnson City Medical Center, following an extended illness. Roma was born in Avery County, N.C., to the late William Warnie Fields and Pearly Mae Ward Fields. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Peggy Jones, Beulah Miller and Marie Cordell, and two grandchildren, Jackson Johnston and Taylor Blevins.
Roma was a homemaker and attended Moore’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She loved her family, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her roses.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Jack Taylor, of the home; three daughters, Tammy Blevins and her significant other, Rusty Turbyfield, Maria Gwin and husband Joshua, and Jackee Johnston and husband Jason, all of Johnson City, Tenn.; one son, Gary Taylor and wife Regina, of Charleston, S.C.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae Bradley, of Michigan, and Lavola Taylor, of North Carolina; and one brother, William Fields, of Elizabethton, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Roma J. Taylor will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Clarence Phillips officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Freeman Taylor and William Fields. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday.
