KINGSPORT—Much like Thursday night, the Twins fired off the fireworks in the eighth inning Friday during game two of their series with Kingsport.
With the Twins up 2-0 in the top of the eighth, Elizabethton’s Travis Blankenhorn smashed a homer, his second in two games, to put Elizabethton up 3-0, before Lewin Diaz hit a home run of his own to give the Twins their 4-0 winning total.
The Twins totaled eight hits Friday night with Blankenhorn and Diaz each recording two each. Blankenhorn finished the evening with three runs as he went 2-of-3. Diaz recorded a double and two RBIs. Caleb Hamilton, Mitchell Kranson, Jaylin Davis and Christian Cavaness all had hits, with Davis and Kranson both recording doubles.
Elizabethton got to work early with Diaz nailing a RBI double to bag Blankenhorn giving the Twins a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Blankenhorn came across the plate again in the third with Davis bringing him home with a double to give Elizabethton a 2-0 edge.
At the mound, Twins Max Corby picked up the win. Corby tossed for two innings with two strike outs and two walks while giving up two hits. Elizabethton’s Alex Robinson opened things up and worked for four innings. He finished with eight strikeouts and six walks and two hits against him. Colton Davis picked up the save for Elizabethton.
Mets Jordan Humphrey got things started for Kingsport and over the course of five innings he struck out ten hitters while only walking one.
The Twins now lead Kingsport 2-0 in their series. The two teams will return to the field Saturday for game three.
