The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) of Elizabethton announced that Patricia Henderson has been named the facility’s Student Services Coordinator on Monday, July 25, by director Dean Blevins.
Henderson enters her new position after serving as the senior instructor of Business Systems Technology at the Mountain City campus.
In a phone interview with the Elizabethton Star, Henderson added she received her Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Student Personnel, leading her into wanting to accept the new position. Before her time at ETSU, Henderson attended Walters State Community College and Tennessee State University.
Henderson succeeds Mike Cole, who recently retired from his post as the coordinator.
“Mike did an outstanding job,” she said. “I’m really excited about this position and working with our students to make sure they have the best options available during their time in school.”
Monday marked Henderson’s first job at the Elizabethton office. While the excitement is in abundance for her new position, she added that it wasn’t easy to leave her position in Johnson County.
“I’ve been helping train (individuals) at our Mountain City office,” Henderson said. “Mountain City will always be close to my heart. I’m really excited for the students there, that I had a chance to work with, and seeing what the future has in store for them.”
With over 20 years of experience in various leadership roles, Henderson has proven to be a wealth of knowledge. The newest coordinator has serviced in Human Resources Management, Office Administration and classroom instruction.
In 2007, Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen presented Henderson with a “You Make the Difference” Certificate of Appreciation. Along with recognition from the state, Henderson’s volunteer efforts saw her named as a Global Ambassador — an honor bestowed to individuals who serve as volunteers looking to make a difference, and for unselfish dedication to helping others in the community.
Information provided in the press release issued by TCAT also noted that Henderson has been actively serving as a faculty advisor for the National Technical Honor Society at TCAT Elizabethton. Henderson has also served as an advisor for SkillsUSA over the past 12 years and has traveled with students from her Business Systems Technology class to Chattanooga to compete over the past four years. Students under her tutelage have earned numerous honors, according to TCAT, with many winning silver and bronze medals in bulletin board, prepared speech, and job interview competition.
