George W. Trent Jr., 76, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Savior on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, from Johnson City Medical Center. George was born in Benham, Ky., to the late George W. Trent Sr. and Gladys Fritz Trent. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenda Faye Trent, on November 26, 1983; a brother, Curtis Trent, on December 30, 2003; and three sisters, Shirley Powers, Beulah Holcombe and Gladys Holcombe.
George was a graduate of Benham High School, Class of 1958, where he played high school football. He served as Senior Vice President of Carter County Bank for over 40 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elizabethton, where he was a past treasurer and was a former choir member. George was a former board member of the Elizabethton Housing Authority and a former member of the Elizabethton Civitan Club. He loved to fish, watch NASCAR and old westerns, and he especially loved his Tennessee Vols.
Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Ray Dwyer of Simpsonville, S.C., and Kimberly and Dwayne Fair of Cookeville, Tenn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Rosemary Trent of Maryville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Trent Dwyer of Simpsonville, Cayden Fair and Drew Fair, both of Cookeville, Tenn., Michael Trent and wife Ashley of Maryville, Tenn., and Bethany Spelce and husband Alex of Knoxville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Audrey Trent and Emily Trent, both of Maryville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Trent of Elizabethton; and a brother-in-law, Jack Powers of Irmo, S.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as his former wife, Ramona Trent of Elizabethton.
A service to honor the life of George W. Trent Jr. will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Raymond Amos Sr. officiating. Music will be provided by David Arney. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Tester, Stanley Bailey, Chris Guy and his fellow co-workers at Carter County Bank. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to First United Methodist Church, 325 East E. Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643 in memory of George.
