William MacArthur “Mac” Grindstaff

William MacArthur “Mac” Grindstaff, 73, of Elizabethton, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 10, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mac was born May 3, 1943 in Carter County, and was the son of the late Dewey and Etta Oliver Grindstaff. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Eudina Bordeaux.
Mac graduated from Unaka High School in 1961. He joined the Army Reserves, attaining the rank of E4. He was sent to Vietnam for a year and worked as a Quarter Master in Petroleum Supply. He worked at the Johnson City Medical Center as Maintenance Engineer until his retirement in 2008.
Mac became a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church in 1971 and served as an usher. He loved his church and all of his church friends.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Barbara Phyllis Stout Grindstaff. He is also survived by two sons, Michael William Grindstaff and Bobby Wayne and Carrie Calhoun of Lenoir, N.C.; a daughter, Carlena Ann Calhoun of Belen, N.M.; and six grandchildren Heather Calhoun McClellan and spouse Nick of Kingsport, Christopher, Cassandra and Carrissa Calhoun of Lenoir, N.C., Thean Nelson-Calhoun of Belen, N.C., and Davin Nelson-Calhoun of Rio Rancho, N.M.
He is also survived by a much loved sister and brother, Geneva Phillips of Church Hill, Tenn., and Dawson of Elizabethton, Tenn., and by many loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service for William MacArthur “Mac” Grindstaff will be held at 10:45 a.m. Friday, August 12, at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn., with Pastor Mark Fowler officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be family members. Anyone desiring to attend the graveside service, please meet at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
