Harry Walter Powell, Jr., age 44, of Roan Mountain, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, following an extended illness. Harry was born in Heidelberg, Germany on June 25, 1972 to Harry Walter Powell, Sr. and Linda M. Gouge Powell.
Harry had worked in construction and was a Christian. He enjoyed playing the guitar, collecting guns and coins, fishing and hunting and riding motorcycles.
Those left to cherish his memory include the love of his life, Nickie Necole, of Roan Mountain; his daughter, Emily Hope Powell, of Roan Mountain; his mother and father, Harry Powell, Sr. and Linda M. Gouge Powell, of Roan Mountain; his sister, Tammy Leeann Powell Gardener and husband Terry Gardner; a niece, Sarah Mayberry; his niece, Abigail Mayberry; his nephew, William Mayberry; and several aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Harry Walter Powell, Jr. will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 14, 2016 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain with Mr. Garrett Birchfield, officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Powell Family. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday; or at the residence of his parents, at other times. The graveside service will follow in the Gouge Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be David Bartlett and Terry Gardner. The family would like to extend a special thanks to their family, friends and neighbors, along with Vanderbilt Hospital and Sycamore Shoals for their love and care given to Harry.
