Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Taste of Carter County event.
The 2016 Taste of Carter County is being sponsored this year by Security Federal Bank and will take place on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 5-7:30 p.m. at Elizabethton High School’s Citizens Bank Stadium.
Each year, the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce hosts the Taste as a way to bring together local restaurants and eateries to showcase their best food or highlight new menu items. The event also provides the community with the opportunity to experience restaurants or dishes they may not have had the opportunity to try out before according to Chamber Executive Director Tonya Stevens.
At the event, each participating restaurant brings different food items for sampling by the attendees. Ticket holders get the opportunity to sample items from each of the different restaurants as they wander through the event.
According to the Chamber of Commerce, the following local restaurants have already signed up to take part in the event: Beef O’Brady’s, Bojangles, Chick-fil-A, City Market, Fatz Cafe, Ingles, Lakeo, Ole Barn Restaurant, Pizza Hut, Primo’s, Shirley’s, The Southern Restaurant, Sugar Love Bakery and Cafe, Tweetsie Treats, and Zaxby’s. Additional spots are available for other restaurants to sign up and take part in the event.
In addition to all the delicious food, the event also serves to help raise funds for local organizations and nonprofits. This year, the groups selected to receive proceeds from the event are Elizabethton High School’s Athletic Parent Organization and the Betsy Band Boosters. In Spring 2017, the application process will be opened for local nonprofits to apply to be part of the event next year, Stevens said.
“Security Federal is a second year sponsor of the event and we are proud to have them support our local community with their involvement,” Stevens said.
Last year’s event, which was also held at the school stadium, drew a crowd of around 500 attendees according to the Chamber.
Tickets to the event are $20 and can be purchased in a number of ways. Tickets will be available at EHS’ first home football game this Friday against Science Hill and at subsequent home games leading up to the event. Tickets will also be available at the EHS Athletic Office, the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce, Security Federal Bank locations. EHS Band Booster and EHS APO will also have tickets available for purchase.
Only 500 tickets to the event are available and they are expected to go quickly as the event is always popular.
