The bridge connecting Browns Branch Road and US 19E will be closed beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6, for repairs. Carter County Highway Superintendent Roger Colbaugh estimates the repairs to take from eight to 12 months.

One bridge in Carter County will be closed for a period of time as renovations get underway this week.
According to information provided by Carter County Highway Superintendent Roger Colbaugh, the Rittertown Bridge that connects Browns Branch Road and US 19E in the Rittertown community of Hampton will close on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
“We’re expecting it to take several months,” Colbaugh said. “This is a project with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) state aid bridge program. There are different variables, with weather and other things. I would estimate the work to take between eight and 12 months.”
Colbaugh added that Simpson Bridge Company from Cleveland, Tenn., will handle the construction process and will address flooding issues for the bridge and other items to keep the bridge sturdy for the future.
Signage will be placed near the bridge as residents are encouraged to take detours on their way home. Colbaugh said the construction Tuesday is set to begin at 7 p.m.
