David Hunter Grindstaff, 72, 192 C. Grindstaff Road, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 in the Pine Ridge Care Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Claude & Lillie Fritts Grindstaff. David had operated a paint & body shop for several years. He was also a Millwright and farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Polly Hazelwood Grindstaff. One Son & Daughter-In-Law: David Shane & Judy Grindstaff. Two Daughters: Kathy Grindstaff, Elizabethton and Karla Marsh, Powell, Tennessee. Two Sisters: Dorothy Deloach and Josie Shook and husband Jack. One Brother: Elic Grindstaff, Elizabethton. One Grandson: Eric Brent Grindstaff, Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in the Grindstaff Cemetery 192 C. Grindstaff Road, Elizabethton with Rev. Doug Hinshaw officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday will be: David Gentry, Mark Berry, Ray Harmon, Richard Grindstaff, Fred Simerly, Mike Estep and Jeff Guinn. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Creed Guy, Larry Perry, Doodle White, Jim Arrowood, Johnny Vines, Gary Claymon and Lindsay Rash, Sr. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Pine Ridge Care Center and especially, April, & Suzanne and a very special “Thank You” to his daughter-in-law Judy Grindstaff for her care and devotion. Friends may visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday.
