Crediting their success to the community, Jiggy Ray’s Pizzeria in Historic Downtown Elizabethton is looking to give back to future generations.
Since the start of September, the restaurant has looked to “Raise the Dough” for education by providing discount cards for food. The cards, which run for $20, allows a customer a free appetizer or salad and 20 percent off a pizza over the next year-and-a-half with the deadline for usage set for Dec. 31 2017.
Jiggy Ray’s co-owner John “Bull” Malone stated that the proceeds raised from the card will go directly into the Raise the Dough for Education scholarship fund in hopes of creating five $1,000 scholarships to be provided to a student from each of the five high schools in the county.
“The money raised will go toward our plan of giving out scholarships to each of the five schools,” Malone said. “We appreciate everything the community has done for us, and we want to use this as a way to give back. With these cards, you really get your money’s worth and save around seven to eight bucks on a trip.”
Malone and John Seehorn, fellow co-owner, have deep ties to the community. Malone recalled their time working with kids – a key factor in the creation of the event.
“Johnny and I helped out down at the Boys and Girls Club for about 15 years,” Malone said. “We loved working with the kids and thought of the idea of the scholarships. We’re very fortunate to be in the position we are now.”
The cards went on sale during Jiggy Jam, the summer festival finale hosted by the restaurant, and went over with rave reviews, Malone added.
“They sold very well during Jiggy Jam,” he said. “We sold several … I’d say around 60 to 70 cards. That kind of support has helped us cut away at our goal. We want to thank everyone that stopped by and bought a card.”
