STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED:

Police have identified the victim of a fatal car crash on Thursday evening as a 78-year-old Elizabethton woman.
On Friday morning, the Elizabethton Police Department released a statement identifying Elizabeth Delano Waters as the person who died in the accident.
According to police, the crash happened around 7 p.m. on Thursday on Highway 19E at the entrance to the Betsy Towne Shopping Center.
When officers arrived on scene they observed that a blue 1988 Chevrolet Blazer had collided with a tan 2003 Cadillac Deville in the southbound lanes of the highway. Due to the severity of injuries to the persons involved, the Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to investigate.
A preliminary investigation revealed the Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Steven McQueen, of Elizabethton, had been travelling south in the outside lane of the highway at the time of the crash. Officers said Junior Phillip Waters, of Elizabethton, was driving the Cadillac and attempted to make a left hand turn from the northbound lanes of the highway into the shopping center.
“The Cadillac traveled into the path of the Chevrolet Blazer and was struck in the passenger side,” the statement released by the EPD said. “Physical evidence and statements obtained on the scene determined the Cadillac Deville had failed to yield the right of way to the Chevrolet Blazer.”
Both Junior Waters and McQueen suffered serious injuries and were transported to the Johnson City Medical Center by the Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad. Elizabeth Waters was a passenger in the Cadillac and died as a result of injuries she sustained in the crash.
According to the Elizabethton Police Department, the investigation into the crash is still ongoing at this time but neither alcohol nor drugs were contributing factors in the collission.
