Elizabethton’s Craig Emmert is the state’s official 3K run record holder.

After a record-setting event with attendance, Race for Wandell officially saw state records from their event be recognized.
State records from the state’s first-ever certified race held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at East Side Elementary School to benefit Dr. Josh Wandell and raise awareness for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) were officially released this week.
According to StateRunningRecords.com, dubbed “THE preferred home of USA state road running records,” over 60 individuals from the Race for Wandell officially etched their name in stone for a record-setting morning of running.
Overall race winner Craig Emmert, of Elizabethton, is now the state’s record holder with the fastest time at 11:06 while Ellie Hall, 13 years old, of Blountville, is now the female record holder with a time of 12:06.
The race may have been the state’s first-ever certified 3K race, but the fourth annual run was also professionally-timed for the first time ever by RunCorps.
“We had RunCorps step up for us this year,” Neal Wandell, Josh’s brother, said during the event. “They did the timing for us. They’re just really awesome to work with. Usually in the past, one of our biggest challenges has been the timing. RunCorps is a new company and they stepped up for us. All the timing is electronic. All we did was give out the bibs and they did the rest. It’s taken much of the burden off our volunteers’ shoulders.”
