Glenn Ray Wright, 79, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Hermitage Health Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George and Bess McKinney Wright.
Mr. Wright was a plumber having operated Wright’s Plumbing for several years. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marjorie McMann Wright; a step-son, Alan Jones; a brother, George Wright Jr.; and four sisters and their husbands, Opal and Spurgeon Smith, Matoka and James Vines, Geraldine and Calvin Rasnick and Elvina and Keith McNabb.
Survivors include a sister, Rhoda Riddle, Elizabethton; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Marie Wright, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Glenn Ray Wright will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 1, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Parker Street officiating. Music will be provided by Ronnie Blevins. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 2, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, will be Larry McKinney, Arvil McKinney, Jeff McKinney, Danny Nidiffer, Stephen Bentley and Bobby Wright. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Sunday to go to the cemetery. Margarette “Margie” Shipley
Margarette “Margie” Shipley, 84, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Margie was born in Jefferson City, Tenn., to the late Ernest Milton Bramlett and Margarette Louise Haynes Bramlett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion “Bud” Shipley, and two brothers, Ernest Milton Bramlett Jr. and David Reese Bramlett.
Margie retired as a child care provider and was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. She took elevated courses in child care and was a member of the Elizabethton Book Club. She was an avid reader, loved to travel, enjoyed arts and crafts, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and scrabble. Many Friday nights would find her enjoying card games. More than anything she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include a sister, Mona Ernestine Sweeney and (Gene) of Elizabethton; one daughter, Suzi Wallace of Elizabethton; two sons, Spanky (Janet) Honeycutt of Knoxville and David (Kim) Honeycutt and life partner, Charles “Buddy” Dudley of Boston, Mass.; four grandchildren, Nikki (Diego) Vega, Jonathan Wallace, Jeremiah Honeycutt and Jordan Honeycutt; three great-grandchildren; two step-children, Debbie Hyder and Dexter (Donna) Shipley; a step-granddaughter, Harley Blevins; several nieces and nephews; her special friends, Shirley Gentry, Martha Gail Holden and Scott and Dathia Reynolds; and her special pets, Reese and Bunny.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Margarette “Margie” Shipley will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 1, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Rev. Chris Shumate officiating. Music will be provided by Scott Reynolds, Bill and Rita Fancher and Michelle Shumate. Steve Honeycutt
Steve Honeycutt, 67, of Jonesville, Va., passed away Monday, September 26, 2016, at the Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was born July 21, 1949 in Johnson City, Tenn., to the late Fred and Nellie Berry Honeycutt.
Steve served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era; he was a member of the 589th Engineering Battalion C-Company. He was a retired logger. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
Steve was a devoted Christian and a member of Harbers Chapel Church, Pennington Gap, Va.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Honeycutt.
Survivors include his wife, Regenia Hyder Honeycutt; two daughters, Ashley Honeycutt Collins and husband Randy and April Scott and husband Greg, all of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Hunter Collins, Peyton Scott, Rachel Collins and Grant Scott.
The funeral service for Steve Honeycutt will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, September 29, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Kim Casey and Randal Honeycutt officiating. Music will be provided by Kim Casey and wife Tonya. The graveside service and interment will be at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Monty Ray Lowe
Monty Ray Lowe, 54, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016, at his residence peacefully in his sleep. A native of Carter County, he was the son of Charles Raymond Lowe, of the home, and the late Charlotte Hutchins Lowe.
Mr. Lowe was a construction worker. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, Elizabethton. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten by all his loving and caring friends that have loved him all through the years.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a special uncle, Ralph Lowe.
Those left to cherish his memory in addition to his father are a sister, Sonja Holsclaw and husband Rick, Elizabethton (Tiger Creek Community); two brothers, Richard Lowe, Raleigh, N.C., and Joey Lowe and wife Lisa, Watauga, Tenn.; and a half brother, Noah Lowe, Elizabethton. Several very special nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles also survive.
A service to honor the life of Monty Ray Lowe will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 29, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Nathan Jennings, Rev. Jack Lloyd and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Hildred Ellis Hardin
Hildred Ellis Hardin of Cleveland, Tenn., formerly of 111 Broad Street, Elizabethton, Tenn., went to be with her Lord, on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. She was 102 years old. Hildred was born on February 13, 1914 in Carter County, Tenn.
Hildred was employed until her retirement with North American Rayon Corporation, Elizabethton. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Elizabethton, Tenn. She loved the Arts, antiques, dolls, growing a beautiful flower garden and watching the birds from her kitchen door. She was a wonderful mother and her greatest love was her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Austin Ellis and Hattie Carroll Ellis; two brothers, infant Glen Ellis and Thomas Edward Ellis; two sisters, Margaret Ragen and Helen Kelly; and her son-in-law, Rev. Justin Nave.
She is survived by her two children, Richard A. Hardin (Donna) and Barbara Hardin Nave; five grandchildren, Danielle Nave Gentry (Bill), Elisa Nave Peoples (Alvin), Tina Nave Robinson (Rev. Keith), Rev. Brian Nave (Carol), and Wes Nave; four nieces; three nephews; and her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to all of the caregivers at Deer Ridge Senior Apartments and especially her nurse, JoAnn and David Zopfi.
There will be no visitation per her request. A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Garden, (The Cross), Cleveland, on Thursday, September 29, at 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be members of her family.

Barbara Britt Hyder, 82, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at her residence. Barbara was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Monta Stewart Britt and Josephine Markland Britt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Verl Hyder; four brothers, James Allen Britt, Larry Wayne Britt, Carl Van Britt and Earl Wilbur Britt; a sister, Betty Ruth Britt Fox; and one grandson, Kerry Richardson.
Barbara had worked at North American Rayon Corporation, Perkins, and Food City. She was a member of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Ida Flores; three daughters, Robbin Elaine Campbell and husband Kevin and Judy Richardson and husband Roger, all of Elizabethton, and Patricia “Pat” Hensley of Blountville; two sons, Larry Wayne Hyder and wife Connie and Jerry and Barbara Hyder, all of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Matthew Campbell and wife Alicia, Whitney Hyder, Jarrod Hyder, Jason Hyder, Justin Hyder and Crystal Pierce Proffitt; great-grandchildren, Zoie Miller of Elizabethton and Courtney Proffitt of Blountville; a great-great-grandchild, Suttyn Proffitt; a brother, Robert Thomas “Tommy” Britt and wife Margaret of Foley, Ala.; four sisters, Jean Shelby Hall and husband Ed of Hackleburg, Ala., Alice Clarcy Brandon and husband Buddy of Pontotoc, Miss., Virginia Lee Britt Penney of Adrian, Mich., and Linda Gail Britt Johnson of Monroe, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Ronelle Britt of Salisbury, N.C.; her special niece, Paulette Pierce of Elizabethton; her best friend, Omega Collins of Elizabethton; her special neighbors, Gary and Barbara Eggers of Elizabethton; and her beloved four-legged friend and companion till the end—“Little Fellow.”

Jane H. Schaff
Mrs. Jane H. Schaff, 101, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of New York, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Lorson.
Mrs. Schaff was owner and operator of The Mapes Piano String Company in Elizabethton. In addition to her responsibilities at Mapes she served on the Elizabethton Power Board, Friends of the Library, the Women’s Civic Club, the Abused Children’s Shelter, was a founding member of ARM, in various capacities at First United Methodist Church Elizabethton and as a hospital Pink Lady. Other contributions to her community are classified and too numerous to mention.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William George Schaff Jr.; two sons, Jonathan Lorson Schaff and Robert “Bob” Lorson Schaff; two brothers, Frank Lorson and Richard Lorson; and a sister, Elaine Lorson.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, William “Bill” Lorson Schaff (Lois) and Frank Lorson Schaff (Merry), all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Regina Schaff Harris, Johnson City, Tenn., Stephanie Schaff, Tampa, Fla., Mark Schaff (Jamie), William George “Will” Schaff III, Robert Johnson “John” Schaff and Matthew Harrison Schaff, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren, Troop Harris and Bucky Harris (Chelsae), all of Elizabethton, Tenn., Tessa Whitmore, Tampa, Fla., Christofer Schaff, David Lyons and Kelly Lyons, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; two great-great-granddaughters, Riley Harris and Macy Harris; one great-great-grandson, Nolan Harris; her late son’s (Bob) companion, Mary Etta Elliott; and a special friend, Evelyn Blevins.

Ralph H. Troutman
Ralph H. Troutman, 81, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Troutman was born in Carter County, Tenn., and was the son of the late Hezekiah and Deliah Heaton Troutman. He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Troutman; three brothers, Guy, Roy and Jess Troutman; and one sister, Edith Street.
Mr. Troutman worked at Sperrys Univac for 25 years and retired from Smith-Cline. He was a member of the Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church, was a veteran of the United States Army and was also a member of the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge #566. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; his grandchildren were the love of his life.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Billie Blackwell Troutman, of the home; one son, Chris Troutman and his wife Stephanie of Charlotte N.C.; three grandchildren, Virginia Page Troutman, Donna Lea Troutman and William Briggs Troutman; two brothers, Jack Troutman and his wife Willie of the Burbank Community in Roan Mountain, and J.L Troutman and his wife Jean of the Burbank Community in Roan Mountain; one sister, Willie Barnett of Hampton; and one sister-in-law, Dorris Troutman of Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Troutman will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Mark Potter officiating. Elizabeth Swatzell Waters
Elizabeth Swatzell Waters, 78, of Greeneville and Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016, in Elizabethton.
She was the daughter of the late Elmer Heck and Nellie Reynolds and was preceded in death by her first husband, Junior Swatzell, and one daughter, Sandra Pleasant.
Mrs. Waters retired as a license practical nurse II from Laughlin Memorial Hospital after 37 years of service. She was a member of Powder Branch Baptist Church in Elizabethton. She taught piano lessons for many years and enjoyed serving the Lord through her music.
Mrs. Waters was an avid gardener.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Waters Jr. of Elizabethton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Fillers of Mohawk, and Sharon and Stanley Schlegel of Greeneville; a step-daughter, Donna Waters; two step-sons, Shane Waters and his wife, Audra, and Julius Waters and his wife, Angie, all of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Anthony Swatzell, Bryan Nelson, Tonya Nelson, Christopher Fillers and wife, Renee, Risha Fillers and Libby Schlegel; 10 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Connie Reynolds of Washington County; several nieces and nephews; and her neighbors in the Rolling Hills Addition.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home, Greeneville. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel. Pastor Brad Higgins and Pastor Gene Cornett will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Waters, Michael Waters, Phillip Waters, Jacob Waters, Jordy Harmon, Damon Drinnon and David Kenner.
