Booher, Isaacs, May returning to City School Board

Three familiar faces will be returning to the Elizabethton City School Board following Tuesday’s election.
Four candidates were vying for three seats on the Board in the election. Incumbents Rita Bullock Booher, Phil Isaacs, and Dr. Grover May were joined on the ballot by challenger Jeannette G. M. Clark.
Because Elizabethton City School Board members are elected at large as opposed to by district as they are in the county, the top three vote earners would claim the seats up for grabs.
When the early voting and absentee results came in Booher, Isaacs and May jumped to an early lead in the race, which they maintained throughout the evening as precinct results began filing in.
Once all the ballots were counted Booher received 2,576 votes, Clark garnered 2,277 votes, Isaacs captured 2,665 votes and May earned 2,593 votes. Those numbers secured Booher, Isaacs, and May returning to the Board.
“I am very humbled the voters are allowing me to continue to serve,” said Booher, who is chairwoman of the Board. “I have enjoyed working with this particular Board.”
Booher said she felt the Board has accomplished a lot and works well together, but she feels there is work still for her, Isaacs, May and their fellow Board members to complete.
“I am very, very happy the voters trusted us to continue our work,” she said.
May also said he believes the current Board members work well together.
“We have a really good board right now,” May said, adding the Board has plans for the future of the school system.
“We plan to continue work on the capital improvement project at T.A. Dugger,” May said. “We plan to keep the school system moving forward to where it needs to be.”
May said he is humbled by the opportunity to be a part of the School Board.
“I want to thank the voters for their confidence,” May said. “I’m excited to be returning to continue our work.”
The Elizabethton Star was not able to reach Phil Isaacs for comment prior to our press deadline.
