Burl Harmon

Burl Harmon, 80, of Elizabethton, formerly of Morganton, NC went home to be with His Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Born on January 22, 1936 in Beech Mountain, NC, he was the son of the late Willie and Winnie Lewis Harmon. Burl lived his later years with his family in Elizabethton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Bronsky Harmon, Ronis Harmon, Wallace Harmon, Renis Harmon and Eunice Harmon as well as his sisters, Lillian Mitchell and Wilma Harmon. He is survived by a sister, Deloris Wakeford; three daughters: Connie Tester and husband Mike, Debbie Madgett and husband Chuck, and Donna Bradley and husband Jeff; Four granddaughters: Kelli Pittman and husband Luke, Savannah Madgett and special friend, Shane, Emilie Madgett, Chelsea Bradley and fiance’, Dustin. Also surviving is the mother of his children, Kathleen Harmon; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Harmon was retired from Crestline Furniture Company in Valdese, NC and grew Christmas trees during his retirement. He faithfully attended First Christian Church of Elizabethton and was a member of the Tuesday Morning Prayer Service.
Burl loved his red Ford truck. He enjoyed fishing with his buddy, Jack and loved to fish in tournaments. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Lady Volunteers. He loved going to his church and spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 6:00 P.M at the First Christian Church of Elizabethton with Mr. Michael Klaus and Mr. John Smith, Ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 4:00 PM until the service hour or at the home of his daughter, Debbie Madgett, at other times. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 in the Harmon Cemetery in Butler, TN. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at First Christian Church of Elizabethton by 10:15 A.M. to go in procession. Active pallbearers will be selected from family, friends and church family.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. Harmon’s caregiver and friends, Samentha Presnell and Nyla, Amedysis, Silver Angels, JCMC ICU Staff and his physician, Dr. Vivian Clark.
