Lady Rangers top Cosby; Unaka boys fall to Eagles

The Unaka High School basketball teams made the lengthy trip over to Cosby where they split wins with the Eagles.
Leading throughout, the Lady Rangers were able to top Cosby 60-26 for a non-conference victory.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Rangers jumped out to a length lead as they led the Lady Eagles 19-9 after one-quarter. In the first quarter, Unaka’s Myah Parlier, who finished the night with a game-high 18 point, posted six points, while her teammate Madison Ensor chipped in with two three-pointers to pad the Lady Rangers’ early lead.
Behind seven points from Unaka’s Cydney Forney and five points from Parler, the Lady Lady Rangers outscored Cosby 15-8 in the second to head into the half leading 34-17.
Unaka kept the pressure on in the third, outscoring the Lady Eagles 15-2 in the frame. The third saw Unaka knock down four threes with Jade Whitehead, Savannah Tipton, Sydney Marland, and Katlyn Burrow all hitting a trifecta in the period.
Parlier scored five more points in the final quarter while Forney worked the nets for four points to help Unaka outpace Cosby 11-7.
Forney finished the night with 13 points for Unaka, while Ensor closed things out with six points and Markland and Savannah Tipton both had five a piece.

The Unaka Rangers could not catch the quick Eagles as Cosby rolled out to a 77-51 win.
The loss overshadowed a 22-point performance from Unaka’s Kyler Lewis.
Unaka will host Hancock County on Monday.
