Monday, Dec. 5
The GFWC of TN Elizabethton Woman’s Club will meet at 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 325 East E St. There will be a catered luncheon followed by a brief meeting. Ringing in the Christmas season there will be a Yankee Swap of gifts. This is a fun time for all. Please call Lilo Duncan for reservations at 542-5690. Members are encouraged to attend and bring a guest if you wish.
The Elizabethton Choral Club will present its annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 1114 Broad St. This year’s repertoire will include many new Christmas songs including “The Little Drummer Boy” and “Zat You, Santa Claus?” The director of the group is Debbie Gouge, and accompanist is Charles Dugger. The concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. A series of meetings for people who keep honeybees or are interested in them will be held once a month in Elizabethton over the winter. The meetings are meant to be informal get-togethers to share information, tell stories and learn from each other about the bees. There will be some short talks by beekeepers, as well as videos. The meetings will be held at the Elizabethton Public Library, 201 North Sycamore St., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Parking is on the street, or in the parking lots across the street and behind the library. All are welcomed, but space is limited, so come a little early to get a seat. For more information, call 543-1568.

Winterfest Art Show — December 1 until January 3 , 2017. Kick off the holidays at Sycamore Shoals! The Watauga Valley Art League exhibition and sale offers great opportunities for holiday shopping! Artwork from the Watauga Valley Art League will remain on display during regular park hours throughout the month of December until January 3, 2017.
Friday, Dec. 9
The Elizabethton Senior Center’s Annual Christmas Dance will be held from 7-10 p.m. Celebrate the season with a night of fellowship and dancing with live music provided by Jerry Pierce and the NightLife Band. Cost is $7 per person. Please bring a specialty dish of finger foods to share. Wear your holiday attire! For more information, call 543-4362.
Saturday, Dec. 10
Rocky Top Gun Permit School will offer a handgun carry permit class at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, starting at 8 a.m. Ken Potter, a veteran law enforcement officer, is the instructor for the class. Rocky Top is one of the first schools to offer permit training and has been teaching the program since 1997. Cost of the class is $55. You will need to bring your weapon and 50 rounds of ammo. Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet our volunteer coordinator John Large at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!

Lamplight Christmas Wreath Exhibit — November 27 until January 3, 2017 each Tuesday – Saturday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m – 4:30 p.m. A visit to the park Visitors Center is sure to inspire as the rooms will be graced with wreaths of all designs and colors hung from old time lampposts. Please contact the park to request a place in this show. Wreaths will be made by community members, civic groups and schools to bring to life the Christmas spirit of our region.

Alzheimers Tennessee Caregiver Support Group will meet at noon at Sycamore Springs Senior Living Center at 1504 W. Elk Ave. for caregivers of friends or relatives suffering from Alzheimers or another form of dementia. Attending the support group can help people to feel less isolated and to make connections with others facing similar challenges.
