New year, new you?
Often as the new year opens up, individuals begin the process of tackling through the list of New Year’s resolutions. Among different topics, including dropping back from bad habits or wanting to learn a new hobby, one of the more popular picks is for individuals to tackle a healthier lifestyle, which includes possible gym memberships.
It’s a cycle that Evolution Gym, located near Northeast State Community College, in Elizabethton has noticed, according to Laban Carrier.
“We do notice a pretty dramatic increase with people,” Carrier said about new members joining for the new year. “It’ll normally hit pretty hard the first of the year for about the first three months then it start dying back now.”
Carrier, along with his father, Joey Carrier, who owns the facility, have noticed the yearly trend has already shown itself face just days into 2017.
“Right now, it is looking like it’ll stay with the same trend,” Laban said. “Yesterday was a good day, we signed up quite a few. The first week is pretty busy, but then that second week is usually when people starting hitting the gym, around here.”
But much like any new task, the hard work is hard for some. If anybody is having doubt, Laban added some words of encouragement.
“The one thing I would say to encourage somebody to continuing at a gym is that even if you don’t notice results early, if you come in and work hard, you’ll notice it,” he said, adding the staff at Evolution Gym is more than willing to help with individuals looking to work over the huddle.
And the healthy lifestyle doesn’t go just for adults, either. Evolution Gym provides different outlets for the youth with different activities including Witten Huddle and offering an opportunities for local ball teams to stop by and work on their fundamentals.
“It’s a great idea to have these different opportunities like Witten Huddle and the other activities,” he said. “To have these kids come in and train and learn healthy lifestyles early, it’ll only makes things better.”
Laban added he’s noticed youth that come in like the vibe offered, especially with 10,000 square feet worth of turf to be utilized.
“The kids really seem to enjoy it,” he said. “There’s been times I’ve heard kids here and they’ve talked about working out here gives them the vibe of working out at a college-facility. It’s very appreciated and we enjoy the fact they like what we have to offer.”
Evolution Gym also has a loaded agenda as far as events go for the public. The regularly schedule of wrestling is expected to pick up this month with one event scheduled to be a benefit event for autism awareness on Jan. 21. Along with the wrestling shows, Evolution Gym is gearing up for what is described as a “big time” mixed-martial arts event on March 18.
Laban added that individuals wanting to learn more are encouraged to stop by the facility or visit the facility’s online site. For more information, visit the Evolution Sports Gym Facebook page online or call (423) 518-1677.
