In the early going, the basketball game between the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones and Lady Patriots of Sullivan East was like an Ed Sullivan television show—it had a variety of offerings from both teams.

The second half belonged to the Lady Patriots who outscored Elizabethton 37-28 to seal the win, 64-48, the first in a while after a string of losses for the Patriots.

“Our girls were really jacked up, and we were going to fast in that first half,” said Elizabethton head coach Barry Johnson. “You have to be able to learn from these types of situations.”

The Lady Patriots worked out to a 27-20 halftime lead as Megan Addison accounted for seven points and Kait Nidiffer added six to build the seven-point advantage.

Elizabethton (7-8, 4-1) was kept in the contest as Haley Burleson and Brittany Campbell scored six points each for the Lady Cyclones.

Ashley Depew and Kaylen Shell scored three apiece for the Lady Cyclones.

East (13-7, 4-0) started turning up the pressure coming out of the break that lead to several turnovers while missed layups and easy shots at the bucket led to the demise of the Lady Cyclones going down the stretch.

The Lady Patriots received a game-high 21 points from Addison who had a double-double with 10 boards. Nidiffer joined Addison in double digits with 12.  Megan Ollis and Alyssa Hare contributed nine and eight points respectively to the winning cause.

Elizabethton was paced by 16 points from senior Haley Burleson who fouled out midway through the fourth quarter.

Campbell joined Burleson in double figures with 10. Depew finished with seven.

Elizabethton now has to quickly turn their sights to county rival Happy Valley tonight in another tough Three Rivers Conference showdown.

It’s a game that Johnson is happy to be playing.

“You can’t live on a game like this win or lose,” stated Johnson. “I am glad we are playing against Happy Valley so we can put this game behind us.

Tip off for the girls game is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Warrior Hill.
