Troy Lester Crawford

Troy Lester Crawford, 92, died at his home on Thursday, January 19, 2017. He was a son of the late George and Nevada Cook Crawford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lilly Crawford and Frances Erwin; brothers, Homer, James, Elmer and Ronder Crawford; and great-granddaughter, Marah Townsend.
He is survived by his wife, Frankie Winters Crawford, of the home; daughter, Gail Pritchard and husband, Douglas, of Old Beech Mtn.; sons, Dean Crawford and wife, Angela, of Kernersville, and Ronald Crawford and wife, Teresa, of Mars Hill; granddaughter, Elizabeth Stout and John of Old Beech Mtn.; grandson, Carson Crawford of Mars Hill; great-granddaughter, Marissa Crawford; great-grandson, Mason Hicks of Old Beech Mtn.; sister, Jettie Norman of Morganton; and brothers, Albin (Sue) of Charlotte, Billy (Virginia) of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Kanawha (Peggy) of Florida. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Troy was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher for the Men’s Class and Choir Director. He was a Charter Member of Fall Creek Fire Department.
Troy served in WWII and received the Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Cross as a result of being wounded in combat during the Battle of the Bulge.
The family will receive friends at Fall Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, January 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. The funeral will be Monday, January 23, at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Jacob Willis officiating. A military service will be conducted at the Crawford Family Cemetery on Sam Eller Road with Rev. Ray Green conducting the graveside service. Pallbearers will be Barry Crawford, Dana Crawford, Reo Griffith, Mike Davis, Robert Reece and Mark Trivette.
