Alfred Carter, 87, of Hampton, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert A. and Nell Shell Carter.
Alfred was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 34 years of service. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge #566.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hannah Lee Head Carter, and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Lonnie and Curtis Carter, both of Elizabethton; two granddaughters, Lonetta Brown and Tammy Grindstaff; three great-granddaughters, Brittany Ritchie, Alexis Eaton and Jada Grindstaff; one great-great-granddaughter, Alayna Ritchie; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Alfred Carter will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Friday, January 27, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Rev. John Hammitt officiating. Interment will follow the service. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ken Potter, David B. Caldwell, John Henson, Michael Reagan, R.L. Head and Jack Eaton. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence.
