Charles R. “J.R.” Holdren

Charles R. “J.R.” Holdren, 66, of McDonald, Tenn., passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017, at his residence.
J.R. grew up in Roan Mountain, Tenn., and graduated from Cloudland High School. He joined the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was an avid sports enthusiast and a very hard worker. He loved to dance and enjoyed making people laugh.
He is survived by two children, a son, Jay Holdren of Elizabethton, Tenn., and a daughter, Rachel Holdren of Cleveland, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Callie, Cheyenne, Haley, Josef, Jamie, Aaron, Chloe, Timmy and Jayla; seven brothers and sisters, Dorothy Gouge and Betty Irick, both of Elizabethton,Tenn., Don Holdren of Cranberry, N.C., B.J. Holdren of Roan Mountain, Tenn., Jim Holdren of Holdenville, Okla., Cleta Phillips of Morganton, N.C., and Judy Smart of Jessup, Ga.
A celebration of life service will be held at Beck Mountain Baptist Church, Siam Road, Elizabethton, Tenn., on Saturday, January 28, at 3:30 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the Holdren family at www.grissomserenity.com.
