Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet our volunteer coordinator John Large at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!
Beginning Sewing workshop from 1 until 4 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Instructor: Donna Horowitz. This is a four-part workshop series meeting on Feb. 4, Feb. 11, Feb. 25 and March 4. Cost: $80 for all 4 classes, plus supplies. Learn to sew an easy starter project! Class is designed for true beginners. Topics covered: pattern layout, importance of grain line / seam allowances, pattern terminology and many much more. Student will sew a bathrobe as their project. Please bring: sewing machine and manual, basic sewing supplies, fabric and pattern. Instructor will provide a supply list at the first class.
Mixed Media Valentines — Join instructor Barbara Jernigan for this painting workshop from 9 a.m. until noon at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. The cost for the workshop is $20 and all supplies will be furnished. Learn some interesting ways to begin paintings and introduce texture using fluid acrylics, inks, and other water-soluble media while creating valentines using mixed media techniques.

Nicotine Anonymous, a 12-Step Recovery Program of Mutual Support for those who want to stop smoking or live free of nicotine in any form, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition Youth Opportunity Center, 546 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton. There are no dues or fees. You only need to bring a desire to stop using nicotine. Contact Thad at 423-306-3866 for more information.
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. Dasheill Lodge #238, Free and Accepted Masons, will be performing an EA Degree on Monday night, February 13, beginning at 6:30.
Tuesday, Feb. 14
The Johnson City United Auto Workers Retirees will hold their monthly meeting at 10 a.m. at the Pipefitters Union Hall, 655 Watauga Road, Watauga. Tetrick Funeral Home, Silver Angels Home Care Specialists and Hathaway-Percy Funeral & Cremation Services are sponsoring a monthly Widow/Widower’s Dutch Treat Lunch Get Together on the second Tuesday of each month. The next lunch and get together will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Sugar Love Bakery & Cafe (located in the Bonnie Kate Building). A Country Breakfast to benefit Holston Conference Wildfire Recovery will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy good food and great fellowship. The breakfasts, which are held every third Saturday of each month, consist of bacon, fresh ground sausage, tenderloin, eggs, pancakes, gravy and biscuits, cinnamon apples and more. Cost is by donation. All proceeds will go to the Holston Conference of The United Methodist Church Wildfire Recovery program for Sevier County. Clothing for victims (especially men’s) may be left anytime before Monday, Feb. 20, in the picnic shed. The church is located at 878 Highway 81N, about five miles from downtown Jonesborough.
The Carter County Republican Party will have a reorganization meeting at 10 a.m. at the Carter County Courthouse, Second Floor Courtroom. All interested parties are invited to attend.
Rocky Top Gun Permit School will offer a handgun carry permit class at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, starting at 8 a.m. Ken Potter, a veteran law enforcement officer, is the instructor for the class. Rocky Top is one of the first schools to offer permit training and has been teaching the program since 1997. Cost of the class is $55. You will need to bring your weapon and 50 rounds of ammo.
