It’s all about planning ahead for the Carter County Republican Party.
The group met inside the county courthouse Saturday morning and elected new officers to make up the board for the next two years.
“It was almost a full house,” Judy Reed told the Elizabethton Star Monday afternoon.
Reed previously served as the chair of the party but will be part of the party as vice-chair for the next two years. The party elected Rusty Barnett to hold the position for a new term.
“He’s a great person,” Reed said. “He’s so active within the community, and we’re excited for him to serve as the chairman for the next two years.”
Barnett has multiple roles within the community. Along with serving on the Carter County Schools Board of Education as chairman, Barnett serves as the Elizabethton Fire Department Deputy Chief and is part of the Joint Economic Development Board that is comprised of Carter County, Elizabethton, Watauga and Washington County.
Joining Barnett and Reed are Johnny Holder, first vice-chair; Rosemary Meredith, second vice-chair; Steve Hodge, treasurer; and JoAnn Perkins, secretary.
It was a successful 2016 election for the Republican Party nationwide. Along with holding the majority in the House and Senate, Donald J. Trump was elected president of the United States.
Reed added the organization would stay busy in the coming months.
The Carter County Democratic Party’s reorganization is expected to take place next month. More information will be available in the coming weeks on the time and date of the event.
