Music lovers will be in for a treat once again.
The Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department recently announced their lineup for the 2017 Covered Bridge Jams concert series and attendees will be in for a treat of multiple bands playing a variety of genres, according to Recreation Manager David Nanney.
“We’re excited about this year’s Covered Bridge Jams,” Nanney said. “We’re going to have three months of local bands that are diverse in genres.”
Each performance is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. through the three-month time frame and is free of charge to the public.
“Our goal is we want to bring the people out for a fun evening of entertainment,” he said. “Now I can’t guarantee how cool it will be at 7 p.m. each day, but you couldn’t ask for a better venue during this time of the year. It’s a great atmosphere and people will have the chance to take in the sights of the Doe River. This is an event we look forward to each year.”
This year’s schedule will include:
• June 3 – Thursday Night Boys
• June 17 – Jeff Sharpe & Chris Mathes with the All Star Band
• June 24 – Stem Winder
• July 1 – 40 West
• July 8 – Two Layne Highway
• July 15 – Hunter First Baptist Praise Band
• July 22 – Hollow Ground
• July 29 – Downtown Country
• August 5 – The Bullseye Band
• August 12 – Lauren Cole Band
• August 19 – Sacred Journey
• August 26 – Carson Peters & Iron Mountain
This year’s series will feature different musical genres, including country, Americana, bluegrass, rock, soul-infused blues and rock, gospel and Christian praise.
While the concert series is scheduled for each Saturday of the month, there will be other events moving right along, Nanney said.
“The last weekend in June is around the time of our Covered Bridge Celebration,” he added. “And on July 4, we’ll have a big Independence Day Celebration with Retroville and Jerry Pierce.”
There’s never a dull moment for the department, the manager added. Following the last show of the series, the department will snowball into their annual Tweetsie Trail Treasure Trip.
“It’s a very exciting time in the department,” Nanney said. “There’s never a dull moment. Our staff is covered up but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Our goal is to keep providing these events to the public and give our community a variety of events to take part in.”
Other activities are on the horizon for Parks & Rec as well. The department announced the Franklin Pool will be open to the public beginning May 4. In the Joe LaPorte Jr. Recreational Area, the ever-popular venue also has its fair share of events, including the Big Splash Event which typically takes place in August.
