A judge revoked a Carter County woman’s bond after she was arrested twice in less than a week on intoxication and drug charges.

On Monday, Carter County General Sessions Court Judge Keith Bowers Jr. issued an order revoking the bond of Whitney Pinkston, 29, of 1189 Blue Springs Road.

Officers of the Elizabethton Police Department arrested Pinkston on Saturday and charged her with public intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of Schedule III drugs.

According to police reports, officers of the Elizabethton Police Department responded to the area of 407 Cherokee Park Drive shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday on a report of a suspicious female in the area. The 911 caller told dispatchers the woman was walking barefoot in the road and was having trouble walking in a straight line.

When officers arrived in the area, EPD Cpl. Matt Taylor said they saw a black Ford Explorer parked behind a small tree. He said he and EPD Capt. Patrick White spoke with the occupants of the SUV and identified the passenger as Pinkston.

“Pinkston was barefoot and had difficulty standing,” Taylor said. “Additionally, Pinkston had slurred speech and constricted pupils. She advised she was under the influence of Suboxone.”

Both Pinkston and the driver of the SUV told officers the vehicle ran out of gas and they pulled behind the wooded area to sleep.

“Due to Pinkston’s intoxication, I asked for consent to search her purse,” Taylor said, adding Pinkston gave him permission to search the purse. “Prior to searching, Pinkston stated that she had nothing illegal inside the purse. A search revealed two uncapped syringes and a cigarette wrapper containing three and a half orange/pink pills. Pinkston advised the pills were her prescribed Suboxone.”

Officers placed Pinkston under arrest and transported her to the Carter County Detention Center.

Pinkston’s arrest on Saturday came just two days after she posted bond and was released from jail on intoxication and drug charges.

On Tuesday, April 11, around 10 p.m., officers of the EPD arrested Pinkston and charged her with public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to court documents, that arrest stems from an incident where police were called to a city pharmacy after a 911 caller reported an intoxicated woman was climbing through the window of an SUV.

“Upon arrival, I observed the female subject appeared to be stuck in the passenger’s side window of a 1999 Ford Explorer,” EPD Cpl. James Sexton said in the affidavit of complaint. “I made contact with the female, identified as Whitney Pinkston, and observed that she had bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on her feet. While speaking with Pinkston, I noticed a hypodermic syringe was sticking out of the bottom of her right side pants leg.”

Sexton arrested Pinkston, charging her with public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia, and transported her to the Carter County Detention Center.

Pinkston appeared in Carter County General Sessions Court on Thursday, April 13, on those charges and Bowers raised her bond to $5,000 due to her having several currently pending cases related to intoxication and drug charges. Pinkston posted the $5,000 bond following her court appearance on April 13 and was released from jail that same day.

In addition to the two arrests last week, Pinkston also has pending charges of public intoxication and simple possession of Schedule VI drugs stemming from an arrest on Jan. 11 by Carter County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Jenna Markland.

Pinkston also has a violation of probation charge pending. On Dec. 19, Pinkston pled guilty to charges of public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia and was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days of probation. Following Pinkston’s arrest in January the court issued a warrant charging her with violation of probation.

In addition to the pending charges in General Sessions Court, Pinkston also has a pending case in Carter County Criminal Court where she faces a charge of introduction of contraband from an incident in September 2016 where Pinkston allegedly tried to smuggle drugs into the Carter County Detention Center.

Pinkston is scheduled to return to court on May 5 on all of her pending cases out of General Sessions Court. Her next court appearance in Criminal Court is set for June 5.
