Mrs. Barbara Simerly, 81, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Elizabethton, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Christine Hampton Cardwell. Mrs. Simerly retired as a Supervisor of Maintenance of Elizabethton City Schools. She was a member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton. She enjoyed playing the organ, crocheting and attending church activities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pricilla Thompson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 60 years, Glen Simerly, of the home; a sister, Sylvia Ecklar, Lexington Ky.; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Grindstaff, Elizabethton; nephews, Keith Grindstaff, Bristol, Tenn., Steve Hyder, Carter County, Tenn., and William “Bo” Ecklar, Lexington, Ky.; a niece, Robin Thompson, of Florida; a god-daughter, Sherry Shepard, Elizabethton; and her best friend, Glenda Arwood, Johnson City.
A graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Barbara Simerly will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in the Highland Cemetery with Mr. Michael Klaus, minister, officiating. Those attending the graveside service will meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday. The family would like to express a special thanks to the nursing staff and doctors of Life Care Center of Elizabethton and Sycamore Shoals Hospital and to Michael Klaus, minister of First Christian Church of Elizabethton.
