Richard H. Hardin, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Hubert J. and Delia Campbell Hardin.
Richard retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 29 years of service and was a bus driver for the Carter County School System for 15 years. He was an avid Unaka Rangers Fan and also UT Sports Fan. He loved to hunt and fish.
Richard was a member of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois J. Hardin, June 19, 2015, and a son, Richard Leslie “Ricky” Hardin.
Survivors include his children, Pamela Wilson and husband Daryl, and Jonathan Hardin, both of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Beth Wilson Tester and husband Paul, Sarah Wilson Oaks and husband Ryan, Amanda Wilson Neas and fiancé Joe Harville and Legend Hardin; seven great-grandchildren, Lucien, Kagan, Raelyn, Nathaniel, Nicole, Hannah and Leslie; and his 14-year-old dachshund Scoop.
Funeral services for Richard H. Hardin will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday, June 2, at Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Greer, the Rev. Steve Burleson and the Rev. Charlie Trivette officiating. Music will be provided by Ted Puckett and the Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Interment will follow in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dale Johnson, Rick Williams, Eddie Williams, Doug Echols, Ronnie Blevins and Ryan Blevins. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob and Carla Cox, Walter and Frieda Williams, Mike “Acey” Ensor, Paul “Bo” Gouge, Doug Buckles, the Coaching Staff of Unaka High School, former coaches, Ronnie Hicks, James Clyde Lyons, Larry Bowling and Mickey “Dude” Taylor, employees of the Carter County Highway Department, school bus drivers and school bus garage employees.
