Water World: Summer readers learn about water safety

Published 6:37 pm Wednesday, June 21, 2017

The annual Summer Reading program at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library is well underway and this week the young readers learned about water.

On Wednesday morning, the Pre-School Storytime session for the program was visited by a special guest — Angela Morris with the American Red Cross.

As always, Storytime began with the children’s musical march and then they settled down for their story. In keeping with the Water World theme for the day, Morris read a book about water safety to the children.

Morris also provided the children with stickers and some water safety handouts for them to color.

The craft for the day was making a fish out of paper plates, and the children tapped into their creativity to design their new finned friend.

The Summer Reading Program continues through July 11, and there is still a chance for children to sign up to take part in the program.

On Tuesday, June 27, the Storytime session will feature a special visit from the Elizabethton Twins. The Tuesday session is open to children of all ages.

It will be anchors away and Ahoy! to all mateys for the Wednesday, June 28, Pre-School age session, which will feature pirates.
