Community members looking to celebrate the Fourth of July over the weekend have a prime opportunity waiting right up the mountain.
Roan Mountain State Park is offering their annual Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, July 1, beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting throughout the day.
“This is a celebration we do every weekend before the Fourth of July,” said Park Manager J.R. Tinch. “This is open to the public, not just to campers. We encourage the community out and have fun with the different activities available.”
Visitors will have a loaded agenda once they visit the park on Saturday. The list of events include:

The events will be monitored and led by RMSP staff, including seasonal interpretive rangers Bailey Kitts and Chloe Wolfe.
Tinch commended the effort of the duo, who have holding various events throughout the summer for the public and campers to participate in while attending the park.
“They’ve been awesome,” Tinch said. “The entire staff appreciates the work they’ve put in.”
It wouldn’t be RMSP with a bit of busy traffic, Tinch added with a laugh, but the park manager indicated the area has seen an increase in traffic over the past year.
“It has been extremely busy this year,” he said. “We’ve definitely see an increase in visitors and campers this year. We appreciate all the support the community has provided to the park.”
