“Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way.” — Dr. Seuss
Ryan James Nelson, 31, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 1, 2017.
Ryan was an extremely adventurous soul with a unique and beautiful outlook on life. He valued and loved his family and had a deep appreciation for nature. He found the most happiness in good music and being outdoors on the Appalachian Trail.
He had an immense love for his two surviving children, an 8-year-old son, Ethan Nelson, and a 2-year-old daughter, Viviana Nelson. He is also survived by his father, David Nelson; his sisters, Leah McDaniel and Jaclyn Nelson; his nieces, Laurel McDaniel and Addison Lyons; and the mother of his children, Tara Fenner.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Jones, in January 2017.
A joint celebration of life service for Ryan and his mother will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Laurels Picnic Area from 1 to 4 p.m. It will be a very causal gathering with little to no formalities because that is what they would have both preferred. Friends and family are welcome to come and share this time together.
