Residents asked to share thoughts on tourism in online survey

Would you like to see new recreational opportunities? Do you think Carter County is home to a hidden tourist gem that others should know about?
If so, you are invited to share your opinions with Design Sensory and the Carter County Tourism Association through a special online survey.
Earlier this year, Carter County received a tourism promotion grant which brought the Design Sensory team in to create an inventory of tourism assets. Now the agency is seeking the public’s help in developing a tourism action plan.
In addition to a special Town Hall meeting, the agency launched an online survey for residents and visitors alike to take part in to share their views.
“It’s another outreach tool the firm wanted to put together,” said Kayla Carter, Tourism Coordinator for Carter County. “We knew not everyone would be able to attend the Town Hall meeting. This is another way they can make their voices heard.”
The idea behind the survey is to get more information from the public to help Carter County and Design Sensory develop a more well-rounded tourism action plan, Carter said.
The survey asks questions about local tourism attractions such as Roan Mountain State Park, the Tweetsie Trail, Watauga Lake, Sycamore Shoals State Park, and the Appalachian Trail, just to name a few. Participants are asked to provide their views on which attractions they feel draw the most visitors to the area.
Participants are also asked to submit ideas for what sorts of attractions, events or festivals they would like to see brought to the area to help promote tourism and increase the number of visitors to the county.
While it might sound complicated, Carter assures that it is not.
“It’s really simple,” she said. “It should only take about five to 10 minutes.”
Those wishing to take part can visit the website http://sgiz.mobi/s3/Carter-County-Community-Survey-Kiosk to complete the survey. The survey can also be access from the Carter County website at www.cartercountytn.gov under “Latest News.” Those interested can all call the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce at 423-547-3850, and the Chamber will send them an email with a link to the survey.
