Mrs. Loma L. Smith, 90, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed from this world to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Born to D.O. Whatley and Martha Reid Whatley on June 22, 1927 in Chattanooga, Okla., she was the eighth of ten children. Surviving siblings are Melvin Whatley and Dorothy Foster, both of Duncan, Okla., and Sevesta James, Ruidoso, N.M.
She was the faithful wife of Raymond C. Smith, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her only child, Stanley Smith and his wife Peggi. She also was the loving grandmother of Jenna Jessie Stiles and her husband Curtis, Charlotte, N.C., and Nathan Lee Smith and his wife Sarah, Johnson City, Tenn. Her great-grandchildren, Brantlee and Cortland Smith and Preston and Conner Stiles, were a great source of joy to her.
She was a member of Longwood Baptist Church, Ponca City, Okla., for 36 years and more recently a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, Elizabethton, Tenn.
Loma graduated seventh in her class and worked as a nurse’s aide at Duncan Hospital. She retired as Purchasing Agent from Ponca City Hospital. She had resided in Elizabethton, Tenn., for the past 15 years with the last three years being at Lakebridge Nursing Home, the employees of whom the family is grateful for their loving care of their mother.
She along with Paul can say that “she fought a good fight and kept the faith and now has finished her course.” She now resides with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She truly was a soft-spoken, southern Christian lady who had impacted many lives. She will be deeply missed.
