Velma Joyce Buckles, 84, of Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord peacefully in her home, Wednesday, August 30, 2017.
A native of Afton, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Willard Earl and Anna M. Drain Mathes. She had lived most of her life in Elizabethton.
Mrs. Buckles was of the Baptist Faith and most certainly went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a homemaker who fed anyone who entered her door. Her family was very important to her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Billy Joe Buckles; two sisters, Mary Faye Walsh and Wanda King; her children, Joe Buckles and wife Glenda, Kathie Foster and husband Darrell, Debbie Seaton and husband Tilman, David Buckles and Scott Buckles; three grandchildren, Adam Buckles, Michael Arnold and Dustin Arnold; and four great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Gathering for Velma Joyce Buckles will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 10, in the Rotary Pavilion, Edwards Island Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the American Red Cross for the Texas Flood Victims. A special Thank You to all her caregivers, the staff of Amedisys Hospice including Lori, Samantha and Chaplin Ed, and also her caregiver, Barbara.
