The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. The Rambling Rose Band will provide music. Those attending the dances are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge. The club holds dances the second and fourth Friday nights of each month. All seniors are welcome.

Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications, and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!

Monday, September 11

The Elizabethton Choral Club’s rehearsals for the fall season will be at 7 p.m. each Monday in the sanctuary of Grace Baptist Church, 1114 Broad St. The Choral Club is directed by Debbie Gouge, with Charles Dugger as accompanist. Weekly rehearsals will culminate with a Christmas concert Monday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. All interested singers are asked to report to the first rehearsal Sept. 11. Membership for new members closes after Monday, Sept. 18.

Bartleby Program’s XQ Super School Live Viewing Party hosted by Elizabethton High School’s Bartleby Program will be held from 7-9 p.m. at T.A. Dugger Jr. High Auditorium. The event is free and open to all. This is an opportunity to learn about one of fewer than 20 XQ Super School programs nationwide, and it’s taking place right here at EHS. EHS students are rethinking education so they can be better integrated into the community and can make a real impact with their education. Please come learn how you can be involved and benefit from our students’ involvement in your programs and projects.

Nicotine Anonymous, a 12-Step Recovery Program of Mutual Support for those who want to stop smoking or live free of nicotine in any form, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition Youth Opportunity Center, 546 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton. There are no dues or fees. You only need to bring a desire to stop using nicotine. Contact Thad at 423-306-3866 for more information.

The Widow/Widower’s Dutch Treat Lunch Get Together, sponsored by Tetrick Funeral Home, Silver Angels Home Care Specialists and Hathaway-Percy Funeral & Cremation Services, will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Primo’s Italian Restaurant, 151 Hudson Drive, Elizabethton. You provide for your lunch from the menu and Silver Angels Home Care Specialists will treat you to a dessert. If you have lost a spouse, please join us. Thursday, September 14

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 17 and DAV Auxiliary of Carter County will host their annual cookout at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Building, 111 S. Watauga Ave., Elizabethton. All Chapter 17 members and Auxiliary members are invited to attend, along with their immediate family. The local DAV Chapter and Auxiliary meets monthly on the second Thursday.

West Side All Abilities Playground Ribbon Cutting hosted by WSE Parent Teacher Organization & WSE Faculty will be held at noon at the WSE Playground. The event is free and open to all. Hundreds of people worked together to raise more than $80,000 for the new West Side Elementary All Abilities Playground. Now, the Parent Teacher Organization and WSE faculty invite the community to a ribbon cutting to celebrate the success of this project.

Friday, September 15

The Elizabethton Senior Center, 428 East G St., will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 7 to 9 a.m. Tickets are $7 and now on sale. Carryouts will be available. The menu will include biscuits, gravy, sausage, pork tenderloin, scrambled eggs, hash browns, juice and coffee. Bring a friend. Everyone is welcome. All proceeds go to support the Senior Center.

Unaka High School, Class of 2007, will be having its 10-year reunion at 7 p.m. at Jiggy Ray’s Downtown Pizzeria in Elizabethton.
