Betty L. Smith

Betty L. Smith, 86, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, from Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Betty was born in Caretta, W.Va., to the late William Richard Crouse and Minnie Mae Tabor Crouse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Sheets, and several brothers and sisters.
Betty retired from AT&T Technology and was an active member of Roan Street Church of God, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Center and was a past president of the Lady’s Ministries. Betty was a loving wife and mother and she enjoyed shopping, buying jewelry and especially going to church.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 37 years, Walter Smith, of the home; a son, David Eugene Sheets, of Joppa, Md.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Crouse, of Watauga, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor the life of Betty Lee Smith will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 28, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Shane Nivens and Pastor Kenneth Bewley, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, September 29, at Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from members of Roan Street Church of God. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 11:45 a.m. Friday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Roan Street Church of God, 113 N. Roan Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
