Rita Jean Davis

Rita Jean Davis, 57, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord on Friday, October 20, 2017, at her residence. A native of Thomasville, N.C., she was the daughter of Geraldine Williams Baird, Elizabethton, and the late Sterling H. Baird.
Mrs. Davis was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a servant’s heart and never met a stranger. Mrs. Davis was a very active member of Charity Hill Freewill Baptist Church where she served as secretary/treasurer and was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Lela Davis, and a sister-in-law, Frankie Nowlin.
Those left to cherish her memory, in addition to her mother, include her husband of 42 years, Henry C. Davis, of the home; three children, Russell Davis and wife April, Robbie Davis and wife Cori and Tonya Stevens and husband Brian, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; ten grandchildren, Blaize Davis, Macey Davis, Allee Davis, Briley Davis, Matthew Proffitt and wife Justice, Justin Davis, Gabriel Davis, Zoey Davis, Andrew Stevens and Brooke Stevens; four great-grandchildren, Milo Davis, Bentley Proffitt, Jackson Proffitt and Harper Proffitt; two brothers, Benny Baird and wife Marcy and Eddie Baird; three sisters, Shelia Baird, Connie Elgin and husband Donnie and Laura Franklin and husband Roger. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Rita Jean Davis will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, October 26, at Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Emert, Reverend Josh Carr and Reverend Roger Massey officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., prior to the service on Thursday. It was Mrs. Davis’ wish that donations be made to Charity Hill Freewill Baptist Church, 1353 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643, in lieu of flowers. However, if flowers are sent, please send them to the church on the day of the service. The family would like to express a special thank you to Mountain States Hospice and to the many friends and family for the love and support given throughout Mrs. Davis’ illness.
