HHS to host Holiday Market on Saturday

Students at Hampton High School are inviting community members to get a jump start on their holiday shopping while helping to support the school at the same time.
On Saturday, members of the HHS senior class will host the Hampton High Holiday Market on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Hampton Christian Church, located at 810 Deerfield Lane, Hampton.
“It’s our first year giving it a try,” said Dr. Amy Bennett Banner, one of the HHS teachers involved in the event.
The event will feature a variety of vendors and artisans who will be selling items.
“The fees the vendors pay go to our senior prom fund,” Banner explained. “We raise a lot of money each year to try to keep the prom prices low for everyone.”
The school hosts various fundraisers each year and students who work hard can earn extra discounts on their tickets while helping to lower the price for all the seniors.
“We try to make it to where all of our kids can go to prom,” Banner said.
The Hampton prom includes a sit-down dinner, the event itself and all of the favors for the students. Overall, Banner said the value for a student’s prom ticket is around $100, but thanks to the school’s fundraising efforts students can purchase tickets for about $40, or less if they have helped out with the events to raise money.
This year, Banner said the students and staff decided to host a Holiday Market to try something new.
“We thought it would also be a good thing for the community and give them a chance to get started on their Christmas shopping early,” she said. “It’s our first year, so hopefully it goes well. We hope it becomes a yearly event.”
“The ladies of the church will also be selling lunch items,” Banner continued, adding they will also have some crafts at the event.
