Saturday, November 18
The next Sew Crazy meeting will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The group will be meeting at a different location for this meeting, The Rock Fellowship, 3120 Browns Mill Road, Johnson City. They will be starting a new project making relief supply kits, draw-cord backpacks filled with personal hygiene items, for UMCOR – United Methodist Committee on Relief. Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications, and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!
Monday, November 20
Roan Mountain Community Christmas Tree Lighting, 6 to 7 p.m. Come help celebrate this wonderful time of year with a community Christmas tree lighting. We will have live entertainment by Cloudland Elementary and Cloudland High School. Light refreshments will be provided while we await the arrival of Santa. A special community guest will flip the switch and the Roan Mountain Community will be aglow with Christmas spirit for the upcoming holiday season. Come out and enjoy an evening of community fellowship and excitement.
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. Friday, November 23
A free Thanksgiving Meal will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The church is located at 878 Highway 81N, about five miles from downtown Jonesborough.
Friday, November 24
The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. The Rambling Rose Band will provide music. Those attending the dances are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge. The club holds dances the second and fourth Friday nights of each month. All seniors are welcome.
Walking in Frontier Footsteps After Thanksgiving Day Hike. Join Ranger Jason Davis at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park at 4 p.m. for a special guided interpretive walk through the grounds of the park and along portions of the walking path. Discover the historical events that took place surrounding Sycamore Shoals and their significance to the formation of our State and Country. Dress appropriately for the weather as we will be taking a casual stroll on the walking path and through the park grounds. Meet in the picnic area beside the Visitor Center at 4 p.m. Please no pets. Hike is by reservation only and subject to cancellation due to significantly inclement weather. Reservations must be made by Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 3:30 p.m. EST.

Old Time Music Jam led by Art Lang at Sycamore Shoals State Park from 1:30-4 p.m. Enjoy the rich musical traditions of our region each month. Old time musicians of all levels are welcome. Don’t play an instrument? Come on over, kick back, and enjoy the tunes!

Saturday, December 2
The Christmas Parade will be held in historic downtown Elizabethton beginning at 6 p.m. at the corner of East Elk Avenue and Lynn Avenue (near Big John’s Closeouts) and proceed through downtown to the Veterans Monument in front of the Carter County Courthouse. This year’s theme is Christmas Around the World and representatives from Milligan College will serve as Grand Marshals for the parade.
