Behind 11 3-pointers, the Unaka Lady Rangers hurried past the Johnson County Lady Longhorns, 59-43, Tuesday night in Mountain City.
“That is what we try to do,” said head coach Kenneth Chambers about the Lady Rangers outside game. “We have some really good shooters. We also have some really good post players too. The name of the game is inside-out, and that is what we try to do. We got into foul trouble, and our guards had to take some outside shots for us.”
Senior Sarah Tipton led the way for the Lady Rangers as she recorded 15 points while hitting four 3-pointers on the night.
“Sarah has really improved,” said Chambers. “She finally decided that she can score. I have known it for three years. That is a big difference in our ball team, her leadership.”
At the end of one, the Lady Rangers led Johnson County 16-10 while Unaka made four 3-points in the open period to put some space between them and the Lady Longhorns.
Unaka outscored Johnson County 11-9 in the second quarter as Tipton recorded nine points, six of which came from two treys. At the half, the Lady Rangers led 27-19.
After three, the Lady Rangers had moved their lead to 44-26 as Unaka’s Myah Parlier hit six points in the quarter. Both Unaka’s, Savannah Tipton and Sydney Markland, had 3-pointers to help the Lady Rangers cause.
In the final frame, Unaka’s Lexi Garland rained in three treys as the Lady Rangers held Johnson County at bay.
Parlier finished the game with ten points while Ericka Potter recorded eight.
In the boys’ contest, the Longhorns rolled past Unaka 80-35.
Johnson County was led by Sean Lewis who recorded 17 points. Unaka’s Isaac Hill finished the night with 15.
