First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton will present “A Tennessee Christmas Concert” at 7:30 p.m. Come hear the famous sounds of Floyd Cramer and Chet Atkins performed by Nashville artists Jason Coleman and Meagan Taylor. Jason is Cramer’s grandson, and Meagan is Chet’s niece. The concert will include Christmas songs as well as some of the signature songs of Floyd and Chet. Admission is free. Christmas at the Carter Mansion — 6-9 p.m. Tours are $7 for adults, $3 for ages 7 to 17 and 6 and under are free. Spend a candlelit evening in the oldest frame house in Tennessee, decorated with bright greenery for the holidays. Enjoy music, refreshments and historic interpreters acting out scenes from an 18th century Christmas. Corner Nest Antiques Mall & Corner Nest Farmhouse Cafe, 100 West Elk Ave., Elizabethton, will host the Annual Christmas Open House beginning at 8:30 a.m. for a big day of decorations, food, fun and Christmas treasures galore.

Shell Creek General Store, 8712 Hwy. 19E in Roan Mountain, will have its Christmas Open House beginning at 1 p.m. with free hot cocoa.

The Christmas Parade will be held in historic downtown Elizabethton beginning at 6 p.m. at the corner of East Elk Avenue and Lynn Avenue (near Big John’s Closeouts) and proceed through downtown to the Veterans Monument in front of the Carter County Courthouse. This year’s theme is Christmas Around the World and representatives from Milligan College will serve as Grand Marshals for the parade.

Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications, and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!

A Craft Sale will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Beech Mountain Community Center, 60 Flat Springs Road, Elk Park, N.C. For more information, call Ida at 768-3148.

The GFWC of TN Elizabethton Woman’s Club will meet at 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church for their Christmas meeting. There will be a brief meeting to schedule delivery of lap-robes and coloring books and crayons to Signature Health Care of Elizabethton Rehab and Wellness Center and the Carter County Health Center. Any member who has these items at home are requested to bring them to this meeting. Following the meeting there will be a Christmas celebration with a catered luncheon and an exchange of gifts.

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. The Rambling Rose Band will provide music. Those attending the dances are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge. The club holds dances the second and fourth Friday nights of each month. All seniors are welcome.

A Holiday Breakfast Buffet will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Elizabethton Senior Center, 428 East G St. The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet will consist of biscuits, gravy, sausage, pork tenderloin, scrambled eggs, hash browns, homemade apple butter, juice and coffee. Tickets are $7. Carryouts will be available. Get into the holiday spirit. Come and enjoy some delicious food and good music. Entertainment will be provided by Michael Hawkins and Chris Mathes. Sing-a-long or dance. Bring a friend. All proceeds will help with operating expenses at the Senior Center. Apple butter will also be for sale. Makes a great gift! The Elizabethton Choral Club will present its Christmas concert at 7 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 1114 Broad St. The group was organized in 1993 and is celebrating its 25th season. Led by Debbie Gouge, director, and Charles Dugger, accompanist, the choral club’s concert is a gift to the community. This year’s repertoire will include songs, both traditional and new, and will boost the Christmas spirit. Everyone is invited to attend.

First Hike at the historic John & Landon Carter Mansion — 9 a.m. Built circa 1775, the historic Carter Mansion is located at 1031 Broad Street in Elizabethton. The architectural details of the home are quite elaborate compared to most homes on the frontier. Enjoy the beauty of this site and learn about the history of this fascinating early home built by John and Landon Carter. The tour will meet at the Carter Mansion and last approximately 1-1/2 hours. First Day Hike at Roan Mountain State Park — 9 a.m. — Start the New Year off right with Roan Mountain State Park’s First Hike of 2018. Join a Park Ranger for a winter morning hike along the frosty Doe River. Meet at Picnic Shelter 3 in the Campground. We will be hiking approximately 1 mile out and 1 mile back along the Tom Gray Trail. Please be prepared for cold, windy, and perhaps even snowy conditions as the average January temperature in Roan Mountain is 24 degrees! Following the hike, we will warm up with hot chocolate at Picnic Shelter 3. Please register in advance for this event.
