DEFM seeking community input for 2018

With year one in the books, officials with the Downtown Elizabethton Farmers Market are already preparing for the round two.

The inaugural year of the farmers market concluded in October and officials are organizing for the new year by offering an online survey to gauge responses from the public.

“A big Thank You to all those people that helped make the first season of the Downtown Elizabethton Farmer’s Market a great success! Although it is still 2017 we are already hard at work preparing for next year and we need YOUR help,” the introduction of the survey reads.

Residents are encouraged to visit www.surveymonkey.com/r/DowntownElizabethtonFarmersMarket to participate in the survey.

The survey offers residents to share their thoughts on different topics, ranging from the time, the location and popularity of different programs that are held in conjunction with the market.

Since its creation, the market averaged between 150 to 450 patrons at the F Street location in the First Christian Church parking lot, according to Market Manager Donica Krebs. The manager added that vendor space was regularly maxed out.

Engaging the community is important for continued development of the market, Krebs recently told the Elizabethton Star.

“It would be great to have my community involvement planned before the start of next year” Krebs said. “Since we know it’s going well, we hope to see more people get involved in the early stages. We also want to incorporate more events next year. Seasonal events like a blueberry festival or tomato festival would be fantastic. We also want to thank the city for providing us with electricity … that was a great help for us.”

Various organizations, from the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library to Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition, were able to partner with the market with different projects. The final project officials joined with was the downtown Halloween celebration.
